Our client: The client and their family visited our stand at a local exhibition looking for a better understanding of what technology was available for a property they were building, but more importantly, a home entertainment system in the form of a dedicated home cinema or high performing family room media setup.

The brief: The client was keen to have a dedicated cinema room, but following a more in-depth look at the plans for the property, it was decided that a high-performance family room surround sound system would be more beneficial, and sit in an open plan area off the kitchen, meaning it would be used on a regular, if not daily basis. It was also important that the system integrated with a whole house control system for services including; lighting control, heating control, audio distribution and security.

The solution: We provided a discreet yet high performance surround sound system based around a wall mounted Sony 75” 4K TV display. As the room opened up to the garden with one the exterior wall being made up of an expansive bi-folding door system, it was critical the image on the screen could be seen at all times of the day without having to close the blinds and turn the lights off.

To ensure the system didn’t dominate the room, we kept things simple and installed an Artcoustic soundbar beneath the TV taking care of the front left, centre and right audio channels, along with a small yet powerful floor standing subwoofer. For the rear effects channels, we installed in-ceiling speakers with a fabric finish that blended with the ceiling.

The system is primarily controlled by a Control4 remote for ease of use, but due to the room forming part of a whole home solution, the system can also be controlled via a mobile app, local Control4 touch screen and Rako lighting keypads, meaning the rest of the features in the house can be accessed and controlled from the room.

Due to the room being open to the adjoining kitchen and breakfast room, the Rako lighting control system was programmed in such a way that scenes could utilise the space as a whole, or individually, and hot days, the bi-fold doors can retract meaning the room can be enjoyed all year round with audio extending to the terrace via Bowers & Wilkins wall mounted weatherproof speakers.
