West Kingsdown

  • Executive Cinema System

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a long standing client decided to carry out some home improvements due to them working form home for the foreseeable future, thus spending more time at home than they normally would. The client previously had a Home cinema installed by us when they first purchased the property and concluded it was time for an upgrade. After they had visited a our demonstration facilities to get an idea of different levels of systems, a specification was agreed with Modus Cinemas, to provide a complete ‘turnkey’ solution, including building work, woodwork, painting & decorating as well as Cinema furnishings.

Room renders were produced incorporating S-Panels to the front and rear wall. The client liked the extra detail provided from the S panels and aided the client with deciding a room colour scheme. After the room renders were provided it was agreed to go with the optional upgrades specified.

Due to the client wanting to increase the number of chairs from 7 to 10, we had to overcome a number of limitations, including the removal of a radiator on one of the side walls to allow extra space to get to the second row. As space was critical, underfloor heating was installed as a replacement. Cineca seating was used as the original layout also didn’t allow the chairs to fully recline.

One of the other limitations to overcome was that the house was originally wired with all central equipment being located at the front of the Cinema Room. An AV rack was installed in a cupboard behind the room to hold all the wiring. This allowed more space at the front of the room.

The specification includes an Artcoustic 5.2.2 Dolby Atmos speaker system, with a Screen Research 110” Ultra-Wide acoustically transparent projector screen with side masking. The masking allows the client to watch movie, and TV content without having to see black bars! A JVC projector with memory function was specified to allow the switching between the different modes, all controlled by the existing Control4 system. A lighting design was also carried out, and Rako lighting control specified to work in-conjunction with the Control4 system.

Our overall scope of work, also included the repurposing of the existing Cinema equipment in to a new external office building that was being constructed to allow the client to work from home more efficiently.
